Do AI assistants cite you
when buyers ask?
We ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini the questions your buyers actually type — then show whether you're cited, merely mentioned, or invisible. No account, no card.
// 5 buyer questions × every engine we can reach — about a minute
Four steps, about a minute, nothing installed.
An AI visibility audit asks the answer engines what they say about your category, and checks whether your domain is part of the answer. It is the same first scan every Spinlap Radar workspace runs — just pointed at one domain instead of a portfolio.
We read your homepage
Enough to work out what you sell and who buys it. No crawl of your whole site, no tag to install, nothing written back.
We write the buyer questions
Five questions in your category, phrased the way a prospect types them into an assistant — not the branded queries you already win.
We ask every engine we can reach
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini get the same questions, and we record who each one cites in its answer.
You get a score and the gap
How often you are cited, merely mentioned, or absent — plus the rivals winning the answers you are missing from.
Three outcomes, and what each one means.
Every question-and-engine pair resolves to one of three states. The distinction matters, because being mentioned without a citation and being absent entirely call for completely different fixes.
Cited
The engine named your domain as a source for that answer. This is the outcome worth protecting: you are inside the answer, not adjacent to it. Note which page earned it — that page is your template for the questions you lose.
Mentioned, not cited
Your brand appears in the text with no link back. The engine knows you exist but is not treating your site as the source. Usually an entity-strength problem rather than a content problem: the claim about you is coming from somewhere else.
Invisible
You are not in the answer at all, and other domains are. Those domains are the useful part of the finding — they are a list of pages the engine currently prefers, on questions you care about.
One audit is a snapshot. Because answer engines sample when they generate, the same question can produce different citations an hour later — so treat a single run as a starting point and a fixed question set asked repeatedly as the actual measurement. We wrote up how to measure AI visibility without fooling yourself if you want the methodology, and how to get cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity for what to change once you know where you stand.
Before you type your domain.
Is the audit really free?
Yes. The headline score and engine breakdown need no account and no card. The prompt-by-prompt report, the competing domains and the recommended fixes unlock with an email address.
How long does it take?
Usually about a minute. Five questions are put to each engine in turn, and slow engines occasionally push that to a few minutes — the link keeps working, so you can come back to it.
Why does AI visibility matter if I already rank on Google?
An AI answer resolves the question without a click. If the assistant cites three competitors and not you, the ranking that would have earned the visit never gets seen. Classic rankings and AI citations are now two separate races.
Does this change anything on my site?
No. The audit only queries public answer engines about your category. It never posts to, logs into, or modifies your site.
What do I do with a bad score?
A low score is a content gap, not a penalty. The report names the questions you lose and the pages that win them, which is the shortlist of what to publish next. Spinlap Radar can then research, write and score that content for you.
Why did two runs give me different results?
Answer engines sample when they generate, and their retrieval sets shift as indexes update, so the same question can produce different citations an hour apart. That is why a single audit is a snapshot rather than a measurement — a fixed question set asked repeatedly is what turns it into a trend you can act on.
Do I need to install anything, or give you access to my site?
No. There is no script, no tag and no login. We read your public homepage to work out your category, then ask public answer engines about it. Nothing is written to your site and no credentials are involved.
How is this different from a rank tracker?
A rank tracker tells you where your page sits in a list of links. This tells you whether you appear inside a generated answer, which is a different question with a different winner. A page can rank first and never be cited, and a page can be cited without ranking on the first page at all.
Which engines do you check?
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini. Each one is asked the same five buyer questions, and the report breaks the result down per engine as well as overall — visibility is rarely uniform across them, and knowing which engine you are missing from tells you where to concentrate.
